Gimbal Stabilizer

The stabilizer is designed as a cantilever design, which makes it easy to set up and balance the suspension. The design is made of the alloys 2024 and 2017. This made it possible to make the minimum weight with high structural rigidity.

On all motors are unloading bearings, which allows you to remove all kinds of backlash and save the motor bearings. This method allows you to significantly increase the quality of stabilization, remove the small trembling and increase PID settings.

The electronic steadicam is made on the BaseCam SimpleBGC 32-bit controller, perhaps the most advanced and developing project for building stabilization systems. The gimbal uses 2 IMU sensors. The controller is hidden in the body of the stabilizer. From the communications of the stabilizer, there is a power connector, USB connections for setting up the gimbal, a button for selecting operating modes and a power off button.

Steadicam has AS5048A encoders.

The fastening of the platform to the motor shaft is made with an offset for fastening the camera platform in the centre of the dovetail. Often, the lens weighs more than the camera, and you have to move the camera far back relative to the site. In this design, the camera always remains in the centre of the site. This ensures that the camera is easy to balance and comfortable to use.

Each motor has an unloading bearing with an outside diameter of 47mm. Inside each bearing has a rigid shaft with a diameter of 35mm. This eliminates the loosening of the motor bearings and the formation of backlash, which fundamentally affects the quality of stabilization of the slightest disturbances.

In low-quality standard suspensions, the shaft and bearing have a small diameter, which affects the rigidity of the structure and causes springy movements in operation.

By installing the AMS5048 encoders for all axes, performance has been greatly improved. Energy consumption is reduced by 80%, disruptions due to unplanned external impacts are completely prevented, and motor power is increased due to the optimal magnetic field. For reliability, the encoder is closed with a protective aluminium cover.
