Hello! I’m Alex!

I’m an R&D developer, and would like to tell you about myself, my projects and my hobby.

My family

I was born in Ukraine in Kharkiv. I was a curious child doing chemical experiments, making something from radio components and doing experiments. My dad had an old car which we repaired together. I learnt about mechanics and electronics at a young age. When I was 12, I ran a car engine without a car. It was an unbelievable experience, and from this time onwards, I’ve been making electronic devices by hand.

Moskvich 403

My dad is a photographer, and I take after him. I’ve taken photos of nature, shot stars in the sky and macro photos. My dad has a chemical laboratory at home, and a dark room to develop photos at home.

After a few years, my dad bought a new car and presented the old one to me. Its was 1964 Moskvich 403. I’ve rebuilt this car a few times. The first time I just renovated all the mechanisms and painted it, but an old construction is not reliable. I needed to check the main systems before a long journey (50-100k), and carry spare parts for repairs on the road. I decided to make two phases of rebuilding. I swapped the old engine for a more modern one, rebuilt the inhibition system and connected the BMW gearbox to the Moskvich engine. I changed the rear suspension to the BMW 3 series. It made this car more reliable. At this point, I had a difficult choice between a wife and rebuilding once again. I chose the wife, and after a few years had great pleasure collecting my son Andrew from Born Hospital in my new BMW.

I decided to build my first CNC machine. It was very fashionable at this time.

Cinema stuff

I shoot movies with my Wife, make electronic equipment for shooting movies, make cinema jibs, radio-controlled heads, rails for cinema, lighting and gimbal stabilizers. I’ve made some devices for my friends, who are freelancers. Once we made a movie for an R&D company, and subsequently offered me a position. My wife, Alexandra became head of Kukuruza Production Company. I started earning money from my hobby. I worked as a developer for our company which grew very fast. After 2 years I was in the core team, and after another, I had my department of mechatronics and as the Tech Lead was the overseer of the teams in our company. I was happy until 24 Feb 2022.

Now I am with my family near Bristol.
